YouTube Go

YouTube Go for Android is a simplified version of the original YouTube app. This app is basically designed for users who are more for lower-end phones with less RAM compatibility.

There are only two tabs Home and Downloads. Extras such as Subscriptions, Uploads, Purchases, or Playlists are not available in this version of the YouTube app.

In August 2022, Google announced that it would stop supporting the YouTube Go app. Users were advised to access YouTube via the web browser or install the main YouTube app from the Google Play Store.

Using YouTube Go on an Android phone

YouTube Go offers just a single scrolling list of videos, picked up from your YouTube profile after you sign in. Tap on any video, and you’ll see options, showing you a preview of the video, along with details on how much storage is available on your phone at that moment.

You have the option of selecting either basic quality or standard quality, and in both cases, you can see the amount of space that the file will occupy on your device, which is also how much of your data will be consumed when downloading.

After selecting the size, you have two options to either play or download. It doesn’t default to either option – you will have to manually choose each time. If you choose to play a file, it starts streaming right away at the chosen quality, and you can see more videos below.

You can always change the storage preferences from the settings, shifting from phone to memory card is really easy. Users can also delete all the Youtube Go data with the click of a single button which is a handy feature to release the storage at once.

Go Small

While using Youtube Go, you will not be able to minimize the playing video. So you will have to take that into account while browsing.

Videos that are downloaded from Youtube Go are saved directly into your phone’s memory. And are available to view even without an internet connection. So it’s a great app when you are heading outdoors or to a place without an internet connection.
