Using Waze to Navigate

After downloading the Waze app you will need to permit it to access your phone’s location via GPS. Say yes to the terms and conditions and you are good to navigate.

Millions of users who are actively and passively contributing countless data points altogether create accurate maps. As Waze tracks you on the road the app automatically judges by the speed of your car whether a road is free or busy.

If you are moving slowly and a few other users are also slow on the same location on a similar road then it will estimate a traffic jam. The app distills all of this into usable traffic data for you to see on the screen. Road closures due to extensive construction are accurately represented and on time.

As you drive along, Waze will notify you via pop-ups of incidents on the road ahead.

Slow traffic, incidents and accidents, and police presence and speed cameras are among the possible triggers for notifications. Waze also occasionally shows pop-up ads for nearby businesses, once you stop at a red light or park your car.

Once in driving mode, you can control the app via voice command to stay hands-free and safe.

Waze app’s latest features

Waze announced a change that brings a lot of those design choices up a level. The new feature is a page called “Customize Your Drive” that lets you sift through a series of design packs that include a set of voice direction choices, car designs, and “moods.”

The new feature is located within the settings, under “Customize Your Drive.” From there you can choose between the theming packs made available. Along with the existing content, Waze is also introducing the Zodiac pack, which allows you to choose themes based on sign.
